About the Event
Who is this course for?
This is for people who would like to turn their hobby into an income, would like to learn a new skill or just want to do something new – in a supportive, friendly and non-judgemental atmosphere.
The course is as much about building confidence and meeting new people as it is about starting a business. The groups work well for people with caring responsibilities or disabilities or who for some other reason are not a good fit with the mainstream jobs market.
What will I learn and get out of the course?
Try out and develop new practical skills which could include creating items from slate or wood, making jewellery, felting or willow weaving. You’ll be able to take home whatever product you make on the day.
You’ll also learn how self-reliant group works and what being a member of one could do for you.
Hopefully, you’ll come away from the day with some new ideas, new skills, new friends and maybe you’ll want to turn what you’ve learned into a business or community project.
What can I expect on the day?
It’ll be an informal, friendly session with simple guidance and support. It’ll be practical and hands-on, so more doing and less listening. Each skill learning session will take 1-2 hours – so you’ll get a chance to try a few out.
Then they’ll be a series of activities which will introduce the self-reliant group concept and explain how they work.
By the end of the course you’ll have a clear “what to do next” if you want to take your new learned skills further.
How much does it cost?
It’s free!
Do I qualify?
Yes - it’s open to everybody!
